Slumberland Update, April 20 2012

Hello all-
So much going on right now we hardly know where to start! How about an amazing new single from Violens? Or the long-awaited new album (and US tour!) from Allo Darlin’? Or… Evans The Death’s smashing debut album? Read on, friends, for all this and more.
-
Allo Darlin’ “Europe” out now (sort of, almost)
Europe is the stellar follow-up to Allo Darlin’s excellent 2009 debut. Achingly personal, incredibly poignant and familiar all at once, Elizabeth Morris’ songwriting has deepened and developed since their debut, serving only to enhance the band’s ability to create sophisticated, intelligent pop music with an uplifting, joyous feel. Featuring the singles “Capricornia” and “Europe”, this beautiful album is one of the finest, most complete pop records in recent memory.
The album is out digitally NOW from iTunes, eMusic, Amazon and the usual sources.
Due to production delays with the LP and CD (when things go wrong…) we’ve had to delay the physical release until May 1. But we’re taking pre-orders for both formats now, and will start shipping them as soon as the end of this week. Jump on it quick and get the limited edition white vinyl LP; there aren’t many of these on hand and they’re going pretty quickly.

Really nice Allo Darlin’ video session. Four tunes, including a cover of The Go-Betweens’ “Dive For Your Memory.”

Allo Darlin’ “Capricornia” single out now
The first single from the eagerly anticipated second album from Allo Darlin’ entitled Europe, “Capricornia” is a lovely bit of jangle-pop that rides in with a country-inflected lilt and ends with an impressive bit of guitar squall. In between you get all the melodic beauty that we’ve come to expect from Allo Darlin’, a master class in how to write a proper pop tune. “When You Were Mine” on the flip side is no mere b-side — it’s an excellent folky tune of love lost that’s sure to pull the heartstrings. All copies on yellow vinyl.

Fun video for Allo Darlin’s new single “Capricornia.” Out now in the UK, on March 6th in the US.

The week in Slumberland, Feb 12-Feb 19
Lots and lots going on, here are some highlights from the week.
Black Tambourine released a tune from their upcoming EP of Ramones covers. They also announced an additional show they’ll be playing during the Chickfactor magazine 20th anniversary parties, at Maxwell’s in Hoboken on April 9th with Rose Melberg and Fan Modine. Their fund-raising Kickstarter project is going great guns, no doubt in part because their backers can get an exclusive color vinyl edition of the new EP.
Veronica Falls tour of US and Canada has been awesome so far, and continues on February 20th in Vancouver at The Media Club with Bleached. Check out all the dates and mark your calendar. Just added: an in-store appearance at Amoeba Hollywood on February 26th, 5pm. And if you haven’t heard it yet, check out their upcoming single “My Heart Beats.” More info about that soon.
Frankie Rose’s fabulous new album Interstellar is out February 21st and is getting lots of well-deserved attention. You can stream the whole album on Spin.com and watch a lovely video made by Hannah Lew for “Gospel/Grace.” Frankie and her band will be playing at a record release party on the 21st at Knitting Factory Brooklyn, and Frankie just announced a coast-to-coast tour with DIVE in April.
Spectrals are also hitting the road soon, opening for Cults on a very extensive US tour in March and April, including a slew of gigs at SxSW and culminating in some headline shows around NY at the beginning of May.
Terry Malts’ blazing debut album Killing Time is also out on February 21st, and we still have a handful of the limited edition color vinyl copies available via mail order. The band are planning a nationwide tour for April, so stay tuned for more info.
Next up on the release schedule are singles from Evans The Death, Allo Darlin’ and Roommates, all dues in stores on March 6th. Keep an eye out for pre-order info, coming soon.
Fave mag Big Takeover published a profile of Slumberland in their most recent print issue. It’s now available online in greatly expanded form on the Big Takeover site.
